MWC, Barcelona, Spain; Embedded World 2025; Nuremberg, Germany; Cambridge, UK - Wednesday 5 March 2025: VyperCore, the processor startup that accelerates and secures general-purpose computing, announces the first results from its VyperLab evaluation platform. Using the Python community’s gold standard PyPerformance benchmarks, it has demonstrated that its disruptive processor architecture delivers up to 5x performance gains in silicon.
VyperLab was launched last month to let partners evaluate this step-change in processor performance. Partners can deploy their existing server-class software workloads onto the cloud-based platform without making any code changes. The workloads are run on VyperCore’s processor architecture, and the performance is compared with its speed on a conventional unaccelerated processor platform.
PyPerformance is the benchmark performance test suite used across the Python ecosystem. They have now been run on VyperLab, demonstrating performance acceleration of up to 5x on completely unmodified code. These results also confirm that VyperCore’s processor architecture technology can be applied to all leading general-purpose compute architectures, including RISC-V, Arm and x86.
The roadmaps of leading general-purpose processors typically deliver performance enhancements of 3%-4% year on year. VyperCore’s five-fold performance gain represents 50 years of improvement at that pace, in a single step change. This translates into major reductions in energy consumption for a given volume of computation. In an industry where 80% of the energy consumption of new data centers worldwide will come from general-purpose compute rather than AI compute, VyperCore’s technology is a vital part of delivering next-generation data center infrastructure.
VyperCore’s “Booth” processor family will initially be targeted at data center deployments, where it will supply silicon and accelerator hardware. Longer term, the underlying technology will enable CPUs of all architectures and sizes, whether at the network edge, in laptops and smartphones, or inside IOT devices, to deliver higher performance at lower energy consumption. VyperCore is already exploring technology collaborations with three of the industry’s leading processor vendors.
VyperCore, a UK-based fabless semiconductor company, develops groundbreaking general-purpose compute accelerator technology, offering up to five-fold, memory safe, power efficient acceleration of in-production applications written in modern, general-purpose, managed-languages such as Python, C#, Java, Javascript, and Go. The PyPerformance project is intended to be an authoritative source of benchmarks for all Python implementations. The focus is on real-world benchmarks, rather than synthetic benchmarks, using whole applications when possible. It is used by the leading players in the software, hardware and service provider sectors to demonstrate Python performance.
